Reno, NV – Strobel Motorsports, based out of Central City, NE, made a significant mark in the world of Off-Road Racing by capturing the overall win in the 2011 Best In The Desert’s TSCO “Vegas to Reno” event. Driver and owner Steve Strobel along with second driver Dale Ebberts and co-driver John “JT” Tondro used Alcon brakes to get around the 549 mile course in 9 hours and 52 minutes, roughly five minutes in front of the second place vehicle.
“Now Nebraska is known for more than just college football,” Strobel exclaimed, “This race went off almost perfectly. We executed pit stops in as little as 51 and 54 seconds, which is unheard of in desert racing. The Ford F-150 felt bullet-proof all day. I can’t thank the crew enough for all their hard work and support prepping for and pitting during this long race.”
With over 270 entries in certifiably “The Longest Off-Road Race in the United States” Strobel competed against some of the best off-road racers to earn the victory. Only 176 vehicles finished the course that began north of Las Vegas, NV continuing north bound through the mountains, dust and silt along either side of Highway 95. Traveling through 16 rural Nevada towns along the way, the course finished in Dayton, NV. While the drive from Las Vegas to Reno would normally take someone nine hours to complete on a smooth highway, Strobel fought the desert sands, rocks and jumps in nearly the same elapsed time. The win put Strobel in the second position in the series championship standings as well.
“Our highly engineered, very rugged desert Trophy Truck uses the Alcon brake system. These brakes take extreme heat and abuse in the desert courses we run”, explained Strobel’s Business Director, Scott Booth, “We believe the Alcon brake system is a major contributor to our success and one of the many components enabling us to be sitting on top of the Best In The Desert points standings this year.”
Steve Strobel and Strobel Motorsports compete in racing events sanctioned by the Best In The Desert and SCORE racing organizations in the professional unlimited, Trophy Truck category. Strobel Motorsports runs the full Alcon Trophy Truck brake package, including calipers, rotors, master cylinders and balance bars.
“I certainly have come to rely and have absolute confidence in the Alcon brake system,” Strobel acknowledged.
